The best surfing spots on the East Coast can be found here on Melbourne’s Beaches. With the longest beach in the State and three of "Florida's Ten Best Beaches," as declared by Southern Living, our area offers a great beach getaway.
Ocean Park
- Right here at Port d’Hiver on Ocean Avenue. Brevard's oldest beach community, Ocean Park is Melbourne Beach’s main surf break and home to the office of Eastern Surf Magazine. A great little neighborhood beach with a lifeguard, sand volleyball court and small picnic tables with grills.
Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge
- Just south of Port d’Hiver, a twenty mile section of coastline from Melbourne Beach to Wabasso
Beach. Biologists consider it the most important nesting
area for loggerhead sea turtles in the western
hemisphere and the second most important nesting beach
in the world.
Spanish House
- At Sebastian Inlet State Park, 15 miles south of Port d’Hiver, A popular spot since the heydays of early east coast surfing.
Sebastian Inlet
- Sebastian Inlet is Florida’s most famous surf break
and a popular local surfing spot with big talent. In
January it is home to one of the most prestigious
surfing contests on the US East Coast and one of the top
four on mainland North America. The Sebastian Inlet Pro
Surf tournament which features surfers from more than a
dozen countries.

Tropical Kayak Tours
- Discover the natural beauty of Florida by kayaking its tropical waterways with a local expert.
Guided kayak tours are 2 - 4 hours. Include instruction and equipment at $45 per adult.
Or, try Kayak Sailing! breeze along the prettiest stretch of coastal waters in Florida. $60.00 per person, includes lunch. No sailing experience necessary, but some kayaking experience helpful.
Bay Dream Charters
- Join Captain Taylor on his 22’ fishing boat the Baydreamer and the day is yours. Tour the Indian River, swim in the Sebastian Inlet, snorkel the reefs where Spanish treasure ships wrecked or just cruise to lunch at Captain Hiram’s. Guest pick-up is a mere 2 blocks from Port d’Hiver at the historic pier on Ocean Avenue. ½ day charter $250, full day $500, and sunset charters $175.
Camp Holly Airboat Rides
- Enjoy fresh air and wildlife while skimming the surface of the St. Johns in an airboat. 35 minute Airboat Ride $24.50 per adult no reservations needed. 2 hour night tour $81.30 reservations required.
Sebastian Inlet State Park
/ Hammock Trails - This mile long nature trail meanders under the shade of a coastal, sub-tropical, palm/oak hammock and along the fringe of the mangroves. Plant identification signs tell about many of the unique species in this habitat. A 10-km Volksport walking trail begins on the north side of the park at the Inlet Concession. The walking trail goes on the jetty, down the beach, around the cove, down part of the nature trail and partly on a paved walking/bike path. The Volksport trail covers most of the north side of Sebastian Inlet State Park.
Forever Florida - Zipline Safari, Coach Safari, Horseback Safari and more. Located about 40 minutes west of Port d’Hiver, Forever Florida is a 4700 acre eco-ranch and wildlife conservation area with nine distinct ecosystems, natural streams, forests, pastures and wetlands.

Cape Canaveral Tours: Then & Now - Tour America's first launch sites from the 1960s, visit the Air Force Space and Missile Museum and see today's active unmanned rocket program. Seating is limited. Offered twice daily at 11:40 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. Each tour runs approximately 2.5 hours. $21 per adult in addition to the cost of a regular admission ticket.
NASA Up Close - Tour launch areas with an expert guide. Includes the closest viewing location of the space shuttle launch pads, the Shuttle Landing Facility, a panoramic view of all launch pads from the NASA Causeway and a stop outside the Vehicle Assembly Building. Seating is limited. The number of daily departures varies due to NASA operational requirements. The first departure is at 10 a.m. and the last departure is at 1:50 p.m. daily. Guided tours run approximately 2 hours. $21 per adult in addition to the cost of a regular admission ticket.

Brevard Art Museum - Located in the Eau Gallie Arts District, a center of creativity, the Museum collects, displays and interprets all aspects of the visual arts, particularly women artists, in ways that relate to the past, to the present, and to the future.
Brevard Museum of History & Natural Science - Traces the area's history from the days of the woolly mammoths and saber-tooth cats to the modern era of rockets and Space Shuttles. Many of the exhibits are hands on. 40 minutes north of Port d’Hiver in Cocoa.
Fifth Avenue Gallery - Located in the Old Eau Gallie across from the Brevard Museum of Art and Science.
LoPressionism Gallery & Fine Art Center - In historic downtown Melbourne.
McLarty Treasure Museum - At Sebastian Inlet State Park on the national historical landmark site of the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet survivors' & salvaging camp.
Historic Rossetter House Museum & Gardens - Historical Tours are $5.00 per person. Tours begin 15 minutes past the hour. Last tour begins at 3:15pm.
Barrier Island Sanctuary - 34 acre education center which features examples of island habitats, interactive exhibits, guided hikes, information of sea turtle nesting, etc. Across the road from the center between the highway and the Indian River lagoon, a hiking trail winds through an active restoration area.

From cycling, boating, fishing, golf and tennis to watching the Washington Nationals play at the Space Coast Stadium, sports fans have plenty to choose from when they visit Port d’Hiver!
Casual Biking - Port d’Hiver has 4 beach cruiser bikes for guests to use during their stay.
Mountain Biking - Three bike trails are located in Sebastian Inlet State Park. The trails are a combination of off-road and paved trail which start/end at the State Park Inlet Marina. Also, Wickham Park offers various nature trails. Soft sand in parts makes it harder for beginners but there are many loops to explore and something for everyone.
Golf , Stay the Course Package - Two rounds of golf for two people at The Habitat at Valkaria and The Majors Golf Club at Bayside Lakes, 3 nights at Port d’Hiver, 2 VIP dinners, champagne, Port d’Hiver tees and more. $185 per person.

Rotary Pineapple Man Triathlon - Late spring 2010. A local favorite right here on Ocean Avenue! Swim .3 miles in the Indian River Lagoon just 3 blocks from Port d’Hiver, bike 15 miles and run 3.3 miles. After, relax at the inn with a soak in our spa pool!
Washington Nationals Spring Training - At the Space Coast Stadium, one of the best MLB Spring Training facilities in the Major Leagues. Games begin February 26 and run through April 4
